There is no perfectly reliable method for detecting AI-generated text. Current AI detectors have significant limitations: many produce frequent false positives (marking human writing as AI-generated), detection accuracy varies greatly depending on text length and subject matter, they struggle with heavily edited or mixed content (part AI, part human), and different AI writing models produce different 'fingerprints' that detectors may miss. While some claim high accuracy rates, independent testing shows most detectors performing only slightly better than random chance in many scenarios.

While our Text Sanitizer effectively removes hidden unicode characters that could serve as obvious markers, this alone cannot guarantee your text will be undetectable by all AI detection systems. More sophisticated AI detectors also analyze writing patterns, predictability, and other statistical features. For best results, we recommend using our tool to remove hidden characters, substantially editing the content with your personal voice, restructuring sentences and paragraphs, and adding unique examples or insights from your experience. The most effective strategy is to use AI as a collaborative tool or starting point, then refine and personalize the content significantly.

Our tool identifies and removes several types of hidden and potentially problematic characters including zero-width spaces (U+200B), zero-width non-joiners (U+200C), zero-width joiners (U+200D), left-to-right marks (U+200E), right-to-left marks (U+200F), word joiners (U+2060), function application (U+2061), invisible times/separators (U+2062-2064), zero-width no-break spaces (U+FEFF), and em dashes (U+2014) - replaced with commas. These characters are invisible or difficult to detect in normal text but can be inserted by AI systems as part of watermarking techniques.
